About the Masters
McHenry Hohnen is a family run vineyard in one of Australia’s premier wine regions that uses bio-dynamic and organic farming techniques to create wines that are a pure reflection of the land.
Julian Grounds – Winemaker McHenry Hohnen
The McHenry Hohnen team is lead by their talented and passionate head winemaker, Julian Grounds. A rising star in the Australian wine industry, Julian received the prestigious award of Dux at the 2017 Len Evans tutorial held in the Hunter Valley. After graduating as Dux from Curtin University in Western Australia, Julian was granted the Leeuwin Scholarship which started him off on his journey working around the world at several notable wineries. He was eventually coerced back to “the land of plenty” where he found himself in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, helping shape some of the most respected single vineyard wines in Australia. At the end of 2016 Julian brought his young family home to WA, taking the reins at McHenry Hohnen for the 2017 vintage.
Justin Wise heads a highly skilled, dedicated team at 12-Micron with a wealth of experience influenced by career mentors such as Gordon Ramsay, George Columbaris and Raymond Capaldi. In 2006 as the Head Chef at the Press Club, the Melbourne Institution was awarded Two Hats and Restaurant of the Year. Justin has demonstrated his culinary talent on the world stage at Singapore’s World Gourmet Summit and collected accolades such as ‘Young Chef of the Year’ (2009) and was one of four chefs named in Melbourne’s Top 100 Influential People (2009).
